I'm many miles from Christchurch, I'm glad to say. Even slept through the shake which was felt around here. Only one fatality so far due to a heart attack. Two other serious injuries and most damage has been done to older buildings. Thank bureaucracy for our strict building codes
Chch city centre is likely to be closed for a while though.

Glad to hear it, mark. Yes, it was good to see there were no fatalities (from the debris anyway). In the news over here there were lots of pictures of damaged buildings and it looked pretty nasty. Didn't want anything to happen to you or especially your gear.
