Default Jack connect. repair: can I use plain wire?

Repairing a broken jack connection, the original "two-under-one sleeve" wire from pots to jack is a bit short.

Can I use two single wires to feed the jack?

That's how my Squier Strat was wired, and I rewired it the same way. Works fine. 2-conductor wire is a convenience, not a necessity.

You can use two single wires but twisted them together like one braided 2-conductor wire.

You mean roughly twisted by hand?

Is that providing some form of shielding from interference?

In a way yes, it was recommended to do so inside the amps so why not? It'll look neater too.
