I tried, but couldn't get a bad sound out of it.

All I could get was different varieties of good.

Maybe a really cheap guitar with crappo pickups could make it sound bad?

Con might be the volume limitations of 15 watts.

OK, I've had mine for a year now. While I have GAS for many amphs out there, it is easy to ward off temptation because I simply don't need anything else. I have touch sensitive, sparking cleans and warm jazz tones, plus excellent bluesy and rock crunch, and searing overdrive, solo, and 70's metal, all for so little cost. This thing has what some more expensive amphs have, on in many cases, don't have: Effects loop, Fender/AC/Marshall tone shaping, clean/hot (boost) switching, and 3 band EQ. For what it does, only the Mesa Trans-Atlantic 15 can top in tone and quality.

Now, I said similar marketing smelling hype when it was new, but now a year has passed and I still have the same great experience and joy playing it, with or without effects. The only possible con I can dig up would be not having a foot switch for the clean/hot boost, or perhaps not having an onboard reverb.

For the price you can't beat it. I may name my next pet after it!
