Pedalboard Confusion - please help!

Hi Guys

I'm want to buy a pedalboard...my first ever pedalboard! But I'm pretty confused aobut what are the best and which one to purchase! I don't have a lot of pedals...probably 6-ish and a crybaby wah (not sure if this goes on the board ? )

So, any tips/advice?

You might want to look into making one yourself. If you want a manufactured pedal board, it's hard to go wrong with Pedal Train. I have a PT Pro and it's really well built and the case is fantastic (though heavy and large). Judging by your pedals, you could probably get away with one of their smaller boards (I or JR.).

Pay particular attention to the built in conditioned power supply. Read up on it and you will see why I am so high on this board. They have all you need to power it up and totally reduce the 60 cycle hum. I bought one and as long as you plug it directly into the wall you get no humm or buzz at all. I currently have 5 pedals plus a Dunlop wah. The only thing you have to supply is the pedals and the cables. It comes with a carry case and all the power cables, and even sticky back velcro. They also have courtesy plugs for special wall warts of different miliamp voltages.
I bought it at GC a couple of years back and I think it was 200.

I have a Pedal Train. I don't know which version I have, I got it in trade. The bag was nice until the zipper broke.



That Furman looks awesome though. The current Furman looks to be $350 if a quick googling is any indication. I have been eyeballing one of those Voodoo universal power supplies for my PT.

Wow I paid 199 for fhe SPB 8 in 2007. I bought it at the GC in Portland Maine. I don't even think it was on sale!
I like the fact that you plug the board into the wall, and that is it. It is also fused in case of a power surge. The conditioned power supply really does work. I found out when my wife unplugged it to clean behind the sofa. When she put it back she plugged it into a power bar. I was gettting all sorts of buzzes and hums. It took me a day to figure out the problem. Pluggied it into the wall plug and instantly no hum.
I just checked and the one that I have is still 199 at GC. There is a newer model that has a lot more functions, and it is on for 330 at GC.

I'm a proponent of the "build it yourself" method. It's real cheap to either buy a piece of 3/8" or 1/2" ply or just find some laying around. Next thing you do is swing by your local bicycle shop and ask for some used chain and a chain breaker tool ($5). Install the links on the bottom of your pedals and then position the pedals on your black painted plywood and then screw everything into position. You're ready to rock!

I put two boards together. The large board is an SKB with a conditioned power supply. It has eight 9V outlets and 3 courtesy AC outlets. Nice board, good product. The velcro covered mounting surface is a material like masonite board, it's screwed down into the molded case. I think a heftier board material and reinforced screw points in the case would make a better product, but all in all, it's pretty good. I think it was $249 at GC when I bought it but I managed to buy it for about $200.

I wanted a small board too and like Spudman suggested, I was going to make one. But when I was looking around for a power supply I came a cross a Gator board in a soft carry case with a power supply for $109. The power supply has 3 outlets for 9V and 3 for 18V. The other thing I really liked about it was the size and shape. Most of the other power supplies cost about as much as this. It's quite sturdy and the power supply attaches underneath, out of the way. I thought it was a great deal for the price. I had a problem with the power supply and Gator sent me a new one N/C immediately.

I don't know if this will help, but here is my current board. I have the DD20 going through the effects loop on my DSL100.
I am assuming you have pedals already. If not maybe look at the LIne 6 HD500. When I look back on the money I have tied up on the board the line 6 looks pretty good for 499.

Otaypanky mentioned the skb board and the one he mentioned was a little larger and was about the same style as the Furman I have.
The one you are looking for seems small. If you compare it to the ones we are mentioning you will see the Thoman one can only barely get 6 Boss size pedals plus a wah. Not every pedal is thin and small like the Boss. I would assume you are in Europe so selection might be a little different. I would say it all depends on what pedals you are using and what you are looking for.
As I always say "buy it once" there is never a need for a "Starter" anything. Get one that will do now and in the future.

I ordered a Gator board that comes with a power supply to power all my pedals.
The power supply alone is €69 and with the poard is €77 so effectively I'm getting the board and carry bag for €8...not bad

I can post some pics and my impressions when it arrives if anybody's interested?
