Default gear consolidation = New Gibson Day

I'm hopeful that I can finally be done with gear for awhile - I got an MiK Epi SG about a month ago (maybe 2-3 weeks lol) and I loved it. Of course I was browsing the used gear for the local Guitar Center online and found 2 Gibson SG Specials - $500 each. After enjoying the Epi so much, I knew the Gibson had to be freakin' sweet.

Didn't really have the money but I did have a lot of gear laying around. Had a Valve Jr amp and Crate VC-508, both 5-watt tube amps. Had an MXR Full Bore Distortion that I haven't touched forever. There were both on the list.

Then I had to decide if I wanted to drop some guitars. I just put some GFS Dream 90's in my Epi DOT - no way that was going anywhere. Just procured an Ibanez Talman earlier in the week...I'd lose my shirt on it in a trade, but at least I wouldn't have to sell it. Then I figured - well why keep the Epi SG if I'm going to get a Gibby SG. Put them both on the list.

Headed up to GC this morning - all the gear in the trunk. Get there, check it all at the front door then start wandering the floor to find the Gibby SG's. There was only 1 left. I gave it a try - neck pickup was DOA and the high e-string would not stay in tune.

CRAP! Bummed - I start looking around at the new SG Specials. Find a sweet cherry faded and start to play it. It plays awesome and actually feels a bit tighter than the Epi SG.

So I decided to trade away all the excess gear and get the Gibby SG Special. Also picked up a 2-guitar Hercules stand since the V and the SG have the very thin nitrocelluose finish. Only got $310 for all my gear, but they were also doing an extra 10% off on whatever you bought new so I got another $70 off the SG. Paid ~!$360 to get the new guitar and stand home.

Here's the pics - I look forward to not sharing any new NGD posts for awhile lol! Included a pic of the Epi with the dream 90's - they sound awesome!

Happy New Guitar Day! That's a sweet SG.

However, the opening sentence got me rolling...

Nice! I'm diggin' the SG, progrmr... Congrats, man! The faded SG, V, and regular ol' Les Paul Jr. are my GAS inducing Gibbies right now.

    Good for you : )
One word of caution, the Hercules stand doesn't prevent damage to the nitro finish, regardless of what they may or may not claim. I have an R8 that will attest to that. I now throw a cloth over where the headstock sits in the stand

    Looks great! Congrats!

There's an SG Special for 6 bills locally that's tempting, but I'm flat as a floogie.
