Smile Lick of the Week - Charlie Christian Two Ways!

This week we are taking a look at one of my new favorites, Charlie Christian....we are checking out how he played the first two licks in the solo to "Flying Home" with Benny Goodman. Then we see where else we can play them on the fretboard...I've taken these ideas and really gotten a lot of mileage out of them for playing jump blues since I learned them.

You can get the rest of the materials here: http://markweinguitarlessons.com/for...stian-Two-Ways!

We also have Adam's second video on Honky Tonk Guitar up, too! Part three will probably be up tomorrow...

His materials can be found here: http://markweinguitarlessons.com/for...uitar-Lesson-2

Thanks! It just kills me that he only lived until 23. I turned 23 and could barely play guitar.

Gordon Verninck's jazz podcasts are a good listen for C. Christian as a part of his history of jazz guitar series. http://itunes.apple.com/us/itunes-u/...ia/id405935692

See Podcasts beginning with #145. yeah, a lot of tragically early deaths in jazz history.

I just looked at that podcast page. I need to figure out time to listen to that...it looks like a complete treasure trove.

It is. Just subsribe though iTunes and you can download some or all of it. Great stuff! The cool jazz, Miles and Coltrane stuff were what originally hooked me.

Cool Mark! Charlie Christian is one of those guys that I haven't listened to very much. But I'm starting to see more references to him from some of the other players I like. Thanks for posting this.
