Default Squier, now you've REALLY gone and done it!

Squier has now made my dream Strat. Colors, neck, everything.

    70s Vintage Modified Strat...

    Basswood body,
    Maple neck
    Duncan Design SC 101 pups...

    I want it. Bad.

Lots of good things coming from fender soon, including the Excelsior amph (13 watts, tubes, with 15" speaker), a Super Champ XD x2 head / cab, and other stuff.

Funny -- I'd have figured you an HSS sort of guy, considering that's what yours is right now.

It's been said many times, but I'll say it again: it's a good time to be a guitarist, at least from a consumer standpoint. There are so many great options out there, the only way to lose is if you get buried under the avalanche of gear.

You'd be right, Eric. I am an HSS kinda guy... BUT, I've been itching for an SSS Strat for playing clean on that bridge pickup for a while now. I've been playing with mostly clean (or cleanish) tones, and I'm ready to explore that side of my playing. I've been thinking about modding the MIM, but don't really want to, as I've got a decent setup with the HSS. I've had a serious GAS issue with the Fender Classic 70s, but can't afford it. If the back of the neck on this Squier has that 70s U shape, it would absolutely fit the bill. Even if it doesn't, I'm more than happy with the modern C on my MIM...

Exciting times in the music world, to be sure!

Yep, Tig, it looks like they are getting closer and closer to the quality of the Japanese made Squiers of the early 80s, and at great prices. I just hope they continue down this path, because Squier is certainly becoming an addictive gateway drug into Fenderland...

At this stage, I'm just not able to shell out the moolah that even an MIM Strat commands these days... SX guitars are a good alternative, and dirt cheap, but I've never really been a modder, and don't have the patience to switch out tuners, nut, and pups on a guitar to make it sound the way I want it to. I've wanted to build a partscaster to my specs, but am glad that with this guitar I won't have to... it looks like it's got what I want without having to mod. I've tried those Duncan Designed pickups on the Deluxe Squier Strats, and they sound fantastic through a good amph.

Now I feel a bit of discomfort. GAS, I think?

    Need to check these out!

Always have room for another cool Strat!

That excelsior sounds like it has some tasty features! Looks a bit ugly for my tastes though. Give me lacquered tweed any day

I now have a Classic Vibe Jazz Bass. Call me stupid or whatever, but I actually like it more than the USA jazzes.

I de-glossed the neck and set it up right. It would be a killer bass at three times the price.

    Call me astounded with Squier.

I like those teles with the P90 in the neck. The traditional lipstick pickup in the neck of a tele is pretty useless. It's sheilded to shit and was originally used to emulate a sort of bass sound. I prefer to uncover and raise the pickup or remove it altogether and swap with a humbucker or, even better, a P90.

I'm with you, stingx... I like the sound of both the neck and bridge together, but on most Teles I've tried, the neck alone is too muddy and bassy for my taste. I dig Esquires for that reason... A Squier CV "Esquier" with a big ol' fat neck would be awesome!

Of course, that Fret tech Esquire that DiStefano built for you looks pretty awesome, too!
