Default Got to meet Alan Parsons at CES 2012

Last week I worked at CES in Las Vegas for my company. While I was there I ran into Alan Parsons at the show and was able chat with him for a few minutes and get a photo with him. It was quite a thrill for me since he is one of my all time favorite record producers having produced Pink Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon), Al Stewart (Year of the Cat), 10CCC, and many other artists that I love. He was also involved with the Beatles Abbey Road and Let It Be records. Such a cool opportunity to meet a guy like this. I also bought his DVD series "The Art And Science of Sound Recording".

Cool, Jim. Always exciting to meet one's favorite person!

Would be cool to see that photo too.

Is this his album? I remember one song that rocked me but no record player now so I don't know which one it was.

That's pretty neat. He's got quite a musical legacy. Didn't he work at Abbey Road?

Does anyone know how to attach a photo to a message so that it actually shows the image? I tried to insert a link to the photo on Flickr but it isn't showing

Very cool, Jim! Guys like him probably don't get recognized all the time, so his meeting an appreciative fan was a bonus for his day as well as yours.

Yes he worked on a lot of famous albums including the Beatles "Abbey Road" and "Let it Be". He was also the producer for several Pink Floyd albums including "Dark Side of the Moon", as well as Al Stewart's "Year of the Cat" album , and also produced the band 10CC. He was giving a talk at the DTS booth at CES, discussing music production, etc, and also plugging his new DVD course about sound recording. He was talking about mixing music for surround-sound formats among other things. He explained that the "Dark Side of the Moon" album was originally intended for quadraphonic playback, although that format never really caught on. He played some cuts from the album in the quad format to show how it was originally intended to sound and then played some other stuff that he had mixed for 5.1. Really cool!

We had a quad sound system back then. I thought it was really cool to be surrounded by sound if you happened to play a rare quad LP that was available at the time. The local rock station even transmitted in quad for a bit.

Very cool! Glad to see you survived CES 2012. My company demoed there as well but I didn't have to go... although I had to put a lot of extra time preparing for it. Glad it's over.
