Default Line 6 - James Tyler Variax

Found this in my inbox this morning.

I didn't like the last variax, seemed too gimmicky to me and the tones were frankly, unusable to me. I guess we'll see if they got it better this time. In the first vid, he's using a pod500 (I think?) so there's that.

Yeah, they look much more like regular guitars with standard pickups now, as compared to the old ones. Interesting. How much do they run?

They are awesome. I may have to get one... we'll see.

    So versatile and fun!

IMO, gadgetry for the sake of gadgetry.

Perhaps. I've seen people put them to pretty good use before, but it's definitely for a specific type of player. I imagine I'd get lost in options and forget to play, but it would be a great tool in the hands of the right person.

So many of us must be on the same mailing lists I also saw that this morning before work. I think I'm in the same camp as Eric here though. I have so many gadgets already, I should focus on playing.

Additionally, I am in a love/lust relationship with Strymon, I can't see myself going for a POD HD at the expense of a pedal board full of Strymon and my own effects (I'm counting down the days until I can buy a Flint in Oz)

The sound from the new JT Variax is truely stunning and I love the integration with the POD HD and DT Amphs. It's pretty mind blowing that you can assign the control of the amp gain or any other parameter to the tone knob on the Variax.

BUT there is one flaw that's been reported on these guitars which was also a problem on the old Variax guitars and that is that you can't palm mute. I think that would prevent me from spending that much cash on one.
