Default Epi Sheraton IIs - are they all the same?

I am looking at an Epi Sheraton II, seller says it is a 98, Korean made, and claims it is better that current production, of course!

    GAS-worthy, but...

I've read many claims about the superiority of the Korean ones over the Chinese ones, but I haven't had the opportunity to A/B them. The older Korean ones do have that nice 5-piece laminated neck, though......

As the owner of an Epi semi-hollow (a Chinese Dot Studio), I can highly recommend them, in general.

You might want to scan the Epiphone portion of the Gibson forum for more info.

The claim that the Korean is better than the current production Chinese Epi's is not without merit. I've A/B newer Chinese-made Sheraton II's and Casinos against my own 2001 Korean-made (Samick, factory since gone to Indonesia) Sheraton II and 2005 Korean-made (Peerless factory) Casino. No question, from materials, stock pickups to fit & finish the Koreans are by far superior. Particularly the Sheraton II, which bears a 'Gibson' Truss Rod Cover.

I recently had my Sheraton II and Casino up for sale, not because I wanted to. Lucky for me, all I got was low-ball offers from folks who apparently thought they were just older versions of the new Chinese products. So I managed to figure out how to keep them, and I have.

Great to hear that things are working out in some way.

My seller (who is not responding to my inquiry) says 1998 Sheraton II by Peerless, and wants quite a bit, on that account. Does the Peerless/Korea/98 pairing make sense?

Get the serial no and enter it here. It's far from foolproof but generally works.

Mark's pointed you in the right direction. The s/n on the Sheraton II in question should start with R98 followed by 6 digits. R=Peerless Korea factory, 98=year built.
