    Default F/S: MKC1 "Mini-Klon" Boost/Overdrive

    Sold!! Thanks for looking....

For sale here is my build of the MKC1 "Mini-Klon" from GuitarPCB.com. This circuit design has some differences from the Klon Centaur, but the heart of it--the part that produces the boost and (with the gain dialed up) the overdrive--is essentially the same. It was adapted from the original Klon design by a well-known DIY pedal whiz who goes by the name of "Tonmann" (he's German). I built this pedal late last summer, when the PCB was first offered for sale at GuitarPCB.com. A good friend of mine & fellow moderator over at the BYOC forums had helped validate the PCB design before it was released, and recommended it highly. After I built it, my impression was that it was a very nice sounding overdrive, but nothing spectacular. That was before I found out that the really extraordinary thing about the Klon circuit is how it sounds as a clean boost into an amp set right around its break-up point. When I went back and ran the pedal in that mode....wow, what a tone! Keep the gain controls turned down and the volume dialed up, and it sounds fantastic. But in those cases where you want to add some grit, dial up the gain and the pedal has the flexibility to handle that, too. The bass boost toggle switch is a nice addition to the circuit, as well, allowing you to fatten up the output significantly with a flick of the switch.

I made one further modification to the pedal, replacing the 47K fixed resistor that controls the pedal's gain with a 50K trimpot. By dialing the resistance down, you add more available gain/distortion to the output. Just set it to your personal preference. It's that round, blue component on the right side of the PCB in the "gut shot" below.

In any case, since I recently built another "Klone", I don't need two of essentially the same pedal, so am offering this one for $95 plus shipping. US and Canadian buyers only, and PayPal payment required. Photos below--the camera flash makes the pedal look a lot greener than it really is. The paint color is called "curry"--see a better representation HERE.

    Mmmm, yellow....

I dig my Klone! Although it has no paint.
