From last Saturday.
My friend Bill Perry opened. Some of his usual cohorts in the Bill Perry Orchestra were gigging out of town, but the BPO has always has a fluid membership, so he taught the pieces to 2 of the guys from another local band, Big Boat, and they did a fine job with Bill's "performance art" pieces:
Above shot is (given the headgear) no doubt "Yoko Ono Shopping for Oranges."
Middle slot was my ol' pal Moe Rodriguez, who was the first person to call me "Brian Krashpad." He used to have a radio show that played local music and he had me come on it back in the day a couple times, and subsequently was the impetus behing the Gainesville Summer Music Showcase for several years around the turn of the century and thereafter, known locally as "Moefest." He currently owns one of the bigger live music venues in town (not the one we were playing at). He and a drummer played as Padded Cell, which, like BPO with its namesake, is basically Moe and whomever he gets to play with him on a given occasion. He specializes in short songs (frequently under a minute) with equal measures of swear words and humor. It was every bit as shambolic as I expected it to be.
Crash Pad closed. I'd meant to use a wireless but needed an AA battery I didn't have, so ditched that idea. Played the Hamer Special but broke a string about 3 songs in and had to switch to the Tele Special. As always your comments and gibes on my poseritude are heartily encouraged, and any questions gladly answered. Thank you for your cooperation.
Few more to come.
Sounds like a blast for all!
The last pic is prime for a caption. Hmmmm....
Haha, I loved that dude. He was dancing practically through our whole set. He's kinda a regular there. Sorta quiet and asocial until the music starts. Then, look out.
Very cool Brian. I would love to see one of your shows live. You always look like you are having a great time performing. What is the latest on the album. Did it go to press yet?
