Not sure why I am sharing this horrible news . . .

Maybe to ask for prayers and mojo for this family. Maybe because it hits too close to home. We just found out this afternoon that the 18 year old college freshman son of one of our friends was missing after having failed to come home from a University of Idaho party late at night. His roommate had last heard from him around 3 am. We were praying and mojoing all we could this afternoon, but found out this afternoon he was found dead.

I can't believe it. I told my sons (15 and 13) that if (when?) they ever end up drunk, to make sure they have a safe place to be or safe way home. Of course, my 15 year old just gave me the "I know, I know Dad, we hear it in school", etc. But I will keep telling him. This other young man did not have to die. He just wandered off from the party, and got lost. Again, not sure why I am sharing this other than I am just shocked by it. This same kid just recently did an interior detail of our old suburban we are selling when he was home on break. They are such a nice family, and he a nice kid. Just a dumb series of mistakes. I am about in tears here.

What a sad turn of events. The kid had his whole life ahead of him. I think the feeling of helplessness makes it necessary to vent your frustration and sadness. There is really no way to find any meaning or purpose in what happened there.

All you can do is try to work though this somehow by not holding it all in.

I have never had children. It's hard for me to imagine the incredible grief his parents must be trying to cope with ~

Very sad to hear, Steve. Very sad. Losing a son/daughter is unimaginable.

Thanks guys. I am quite concerned about the mother and father. The boy's mother works in our home three days a week caring for my mother in law due to her dementia issues. The woman is an incredibly patient, sweet, caring person. I cannot imagine the loss she and her husband are suffering. Thanks for the kind words, letting me share, and for the prayers and thoughts for these people.

Well.........I guess it's the heartbreak of losing a child and because you have kids it hits close to home....and you know the kid as being a good kid who did something dumb but not malicious and died because of it...and then the circumstances, he knocked on doors and was turned away; maybe he died of hypothermia?.....if so, it's tragic because if one of the people had called the cops, he would have been arrested for public intoxication/public nuisance but would have spent the night in a warm jail cell, and still be alive to tell about it.

Prayers and mojo to the parents and also to the people who turned him away and didn't call the cops. They probably thought they were doing him a favor by not calling the cops. Tragic.

Wow, Steve. I'm so sorry for this struggle for you and of course this other family. Sounds as though you've been wonderful friends to this family for some time, and now that is the biggest gift you can share.
