OK it is evident that I am way out of touch with all the bands and albums being discussed in this thread. I am familiar with the works of: the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Dire Straits, ZZ Top, and the Rolling Stones. Although I do not have these albums.

I am somewhat familiar with Pink Floyd, AC/DC, and some others. Some bands I never heard of. Hey I am an ex-oldie but goodie fan!

Since it will be very expensive for me to go out and buy all those CDs, I ask the following. Can the group give the names of the songs that are considered the “best of�? This way I can collect the best of the best and go to Best Buy and have them download only these songs onto a CD. I think they charge $0.80 a song.

I did this a few months back. I had them download the best hits of Fat Burger. I got 15 songs for less then $12.00.

Operation Mindcrime is an album that you really need to listen to from beginning to end. I'd highly recommend it if you like 80s metal at all.

Does everyone know about mothermetal.com? You can legally download MP3s of all kinds of 80s metal. They've got most of the well-known stuff and some pretty obscure stuff as well. You pay by the gigabyte. Good stuff, highly recommended.

Tim - You may want to check out the "Picked Up An Old Tape Yesterday" thread in the HYH forum - marnold posted a couple links that offer *free* music downloads (one of them had (50) free downloads!!) - might save you some $$, though I am not sure that all of the bands you seek are available through that site. Many of them should be.

I love all the classic stuff that I grew up with but I really appreciate where the new guys are going. Composition and technique are different than the "old school" stuff. The music is so diverse.

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime... man do I love that album! So many great songs... especially 'Anarchy X' into 'Revolution Calling' and 'I Don't Believe In Love'.

As for wanting to hear albums... if any of you are familiar with newsgroups, I could always post some in alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.rock or something where you could leech a ton of stuff for nothing.

Let me know if there is any interest. I think trading MP3s to expose each other to new material is a great and inexpensive way to "spread the word". Then if you like what you hear, buy the CD. I always buy CDs from artists I like to suport the band and future releases.

2) In Utero- Nirvana ( as you might guess, i'm a large Nirvana fan, but dont listen them much anymore as my mucial taste has changed)

Magic - Nice to see you list Gov't Mule in your "best of" list. Warren Haynes might just be one of the hardest working guitarists in the biz, not only fronting The Mule (lead guitar / lead vocals), but also touring with the Allman Bros., and contributing guitar work, vocals, and other material to a bevy of other artists. He's a huge talent, and a damn fine guitar player. Warren is a Les Paul man, and plays through some custom Soldanos, amongst other gear. I've seen him perform with both bands, and he was amazing, to say the least. Hopefully, there'll be a post about him sometime in the near future.
