Default Long time no sea but, here's an EP I made just now...download as zip.

So first the story...my wife & kids left me for weekend and I was gonna use the time to record some dozen vocal tracks I should be working on soon, but alas, my throat was shot. So I thought to myself, what better time to start that solo recording project I've been thinking of.

So I put on the click in Cubase and fired up the amp and started playing and making up new riffs that would fit together well. Played that way for many hours, and then I had a whole bunch of stuff in Cubase and sore fingers. Then I played drums and bass on them and later some lead bits. Took me two days.

    Gear used:

    Cubase 6 DAW, Presonus Firepod
    Marshall JVM
    A couple of condenser mics
    Three guitars:
    - 'Davette' with EMG SA+85 (left channel rhythms, both pickups on)
    - 'Puke' with Tesla AH-3? I think bucker & some Tesla singlecoil active (right channel guitars)
    - 'Alumitop' with EMG85+PA2 preamp (most solo bits)
    Yamaha bass
Amplitube 3 for some effects on d/i track I recorded along with the amp
Alesis DM-8Pro USB electric drums, Toontrack's drum sounds from MIDI

Now I mixed them over the xmas holidays & mastered and whatnot.
Planning to make some cover art as well & a bunch of copies on CD.
But for now I'll just post them here for access if you'd care to give it a listen.

I don't know what genre it is...it was mostly simply trail of thought - call it experimental rock with influences from Stoner Rock like Fu Manchu, and throw in some Stone Temple, Danko Jones and whatever bands I've liked.

I really didn't think at all about the way they'd turn out or plan the parts so it'd be pleasant to listen or suitable for radio or anything...just did what ever I felt like playing, really. There's all kinds of freaky chords I don't know the names of etc. It's kind of a proof of concept album(EP) maybe...I should perhaps put together a bunch of songs a bit more pre-planned and perhaps use some rather regular chordings etc. to make it easy to listen :-)

    Here's the songs downloadable/listenable MP3:

    Star Children
    Long Way To Find
    Freedom
    Everything Is Possible
    Can't Change

And here's the full EP as ZIP file to load:

    Any comments welcome.

Oh the lyrics...it's kind of a continuous story:

    1. Star Children

There's no meaning to life except enjoying it
Everywhere life it comes and goes
But you got-to enjoy it to full
And it's best done by living it well

    Do unto others
What you would like to get
    And you will find
    Happiness there
    Just decide to
Grab the world by the balls
Take care of others and you take care of you

    We're really star children
Every inch of you was born in a star
    You're really a star baby
And every inch of you I sure will enjoy
    We're really star children
Give love to others and you love yourself
    Yeah baby, star children
I'll show you happy and I'll show you the way
Yeah come on baby let me show you the way

All you need to do is decide to be happy
    And you will certainly be
Don't spend you time thinking 'bout the things that you don't have
There's always someone more successful than you

    Don't let subconscious
    Mind to guide you
And never ever try to pick up a fight
    But you must stand tall
And you must claim what is yours
And today baby I'm here for you

    We're really star children
Every inch of you was born in a star
    You're really a star baby
And every inch of you I sure will enjoy
    We're really star children
Give love to others and you love yourself
    Yeah baby, star children
I'll show you happy and I'll show you the way
Yeah come on baby let me show you the way

3 - Long Way To Find

Don’t get stuck in your life
Doing things that do not matter
    Take the time to consider
Who you are and where you're heading

    Don't take things - don't take me
Don't take things for granted you're mistaken

    Don't just stand there
    Tread the water as usual
Don't mean you need to be changing
But keep improving what you are
And if it don't seem to matter
    Maybe in time it will
So keep your mind wide open
    Keep on learning never freeze

It's a long way to find
What you are what you are what you are what you are

    If it feels like
    An absolute truth
    It probably is just concoction
    Of someone crazier than you
So take everything with a grain of salt
    Don't take anything as truth
    Especially if they tell you
If they're pushing it as true

    Don't take things - don't take me
Don't take things for granted you're mistaken

    3 - Anything Is Possible

    Yeah it's all in nothing
    You're no unique snowflake
The Universe would not miss you
    But I surely would
    So li'l baby

    Tell you what I know
Life will never give you anything for free
So I say - kick out the blues
Don't give a shit how hard you're kicked
You make mistakes - you learn from them
It ain't no reason to check out too quick
As the end comes all too soon
Live each day like it any moment could

    Everything ends eventually
    But in between the're opportunity
    So always be brave
Take on the challenge of life

    Everything is possible
    All things can be done
Everything is open as long as there's love
Life is too short so don't fear to hold
On to what you love and you don't let go

So listen baby, I'll tell you now
Don't let anyone tell you what to be
Life is short - so don't let it end
As long as there is something left to do
    Don't spend your time procrastinating
You makes your choice - and live with what you choose
And when the sky comes falling down
Just remember - it was never going to last

    4 - Freedom

    Don’t become a prisoner
Of your own emotions or desires
    Whatever you make yourself think
    Becomes your reality

When it doubt, better not to
Don't be fooled take control of your own now
There is no fate you are what you do
So if you hate, you are choosing to hate

So screw you - you're no better than anyone else
So screw - you're no wiser than anyone else

Whatever you do in life, do your best
    Don't give in to hatred
    Or petty problems
    Just be free...

    05 - Can't Change

Do you best and pay your dues
And deny the test imposed on you
You know everyone will sometimes fall
But if you did your best, it is no-one's fault

    La la la la...

When you really want to thrive
    The real happiness is inside
    Never worry about the things
You can't change you just can't win

    Can't change the past
    So release your grasp
    Can't change the path

    Release the grip
    When it's long time gone

Grow big and strong I hope for you
But refuse to grow up all too soon
Just retain the child deep inside you
And enjoy the game laid out for you

    Life's a game it's not a jail
Be always honest, true to self
Not much else than I could say
Except this last thing here today

There's more to life than I can do
But let me hand this torch to you
    After I have slipped away
    You my children still remain

Cool. I am downloading it right now. BTW, did you ever listen to my band's album that I put up here? I would be interested to hear your thoughts.

I listened to the album a couple of days ago. Pretty interesting riffs, though the lyrics I could understand seemed pretty dark and pessimistic. I realize you posted them above, but that was just based on listening to the songs. Guitar leads were very cool.

    Thanks for posting your stuff!

Thanks...they're meant as advice on what not to do in life - basically 'don't hate or spend time worrying' etc. And that everything is possible if one chooses so :-)
