Default Musicians Friend Stupid Deal of The Day

Every day MF offers some killer deals on a select piece of gear. Anything that you find on that page that you think that our members would find useful please post it here.

Today 1-26-07 is an Arion compressor pedal. This is the only compressor I've seen with a tone control. $10!

At that price, I should probably just get one, but what doe the compressor pedal do actually, and how would it add to my Monkey and DS-1?

I was tempted by that one, but didn't like what I read under the MF review section for that Arion pedal. Seemed like a high percentage of dissatisfaction with the pedal's sound. Then again, for $10, how badly burned can you get?!?

Jason, the only Rogue I've seen so far was a lap steel (although it came w/ a really cheesy set of "legs"), and I'm not trying to discourage anyone if the acoustic looks appealing, but....
The steel I saw was near-junk. Tuners were very sloppy, pickup shrill, volume pot loose and scratchy. Not good.
Then again, the acoustic may be one of those that a few goodies like new tuners could really be a good little axe. I'd be willing to bet at the least some fret work and a set of tuners would be needed, though.

I have 2 Rogue acoustics with Fishman electronics. Heck, the preamps alone were worth the meager price of the guitars, but I was pleased to discover that the guitars sound very good. Expect that you'll have to sand the bridge saddle down to lower the action and tighten the truss rod to straighten the neck. The guitar is definitely worth the price.

However, for a little more $ you can find their Herringbone cutaway or the Mahogany cutaway with the Fishman electronics. Might be a better way to go.

I had already sent the linkt to a Mom and Dad I know who are looking for a middle school daughter's first guitar. For that price, it should work even if I have to help them tweak it a little.

    Jeeezx I hate This...
    I really liked Musiciansfriends...
Have bought alot thru them in the last few years........
But these last few orders really got to me.. (Not suprised huh)
How much should we have to put up with when buying with "our" money?
2 of the last 3 orders had broken/repacked items sold as NEW.
Ok, they give the return of 45 days etc... but should we really have to wait?
is it not in their best interest? to have the policy for people who buy online with confidence?
Should they not go out of their way to replace items not working even before they get the returned item?
Should we all feel like crooks from them, waiting to see if we pass their test to return an item?
Should they at least do what they say on the phone and ship those items while their DOA is returning!
My DOA items have arrived back at MusiciansFriend but the new replacements have yet to ship although
promised by phone they would cross in the mail...once tracking was confirmed which it was.
I swear.. why even promise it if your not going to do it.
Unfortunate as it is.. I guess all online companies are sweet and nice till something goes wrong.
Then it's the customer who pays for it.
I will move on to "other" companies for now.. although, I am sure this policy happens at every one of them.
When does the consumer finally get a break any more?
There are just to many people in the world... customer service is just a pipe dream.

The only "Stupid deal" at Musicians"friend" is the consumer buying from them.

But, until it happens to you...and be warned it will..Im just a raving, ranting unhappy customer.
    ok rant is over...
( wrote this right after phonecall confirming my items arrived and they seem to still be waiting till saturday to ship the replacements!)

I've had generally good service from them, with two exceptions. In one instance, it took them a long time to credit my account after receiving a return - probably weeks. It was a "Refurbished" item I returned, and trust me, no one refurbished it. It was clearly very used, with none of the manuals, cables, etc., and just stuffed back into a beat up box. On a recent order, they failed to pack a small item in the box. It was an easy mistake to make since it was a small $2.00 item, so they sent me another no questions asked. I wonder what would've happened if it were a more expensive item. Would they have believed me? I have issue with mis-describing what is being sold, particularly the idea of selling previous returns as "new." They should go through the item when it is returned and be accurate in its description when they go to sell it, such as "warehouse resealed" or similar. Otherwise, I've had good service. My orders have come in reasonable time and have been well packed. I have also cashed in on the price protection program a few times.

Sorry that you got tweaked over at MF.
I've dealt with them for over 20 years with no gripes. Maybe I've been lucky, but if they are as bad as you say then odds would be that I would have problems with them. I don't. Sorry that you did. I guess you're justa...special.

The point of this thread is that occasionally they have killer deals and to pass on that information.

Well, we do agree on one thing... I am kinda special...

Sorry, the title said stupid deals at MusiciansFriend.. I replied at the time what I thought the stupid deal was...

I speak/type my mind..as little as it is.. someone does something bad.. I speak up.. someone does something good.. I speak up.. always have..

On keeping with MF.. I just got off the phone with a young gentleman named Brian Tadel(sp?) who called me from Musicians Friend.. You see I sent two emails to Management (squeaky wheel gets the grease) also about the recent bad service.. Brian and I had a great discusion including your 20 year experience with them..and this thread hijacking (not really hijacked) After it was all said and done... a decent goodbye and a gift certificate exchanged hands...ummm ears... so see, I even mention the good!! Ofcourse I am still waiting on my returns to ummm return..and the gift is 48 hours away.. but will probably use the gift certificate and see how the service is from here on out..

Oh btw, they got a epiphone acoustic for 69 bucks right now.. as the stupid deal of the day..
