Default My 51 idea is solidified .....

Ok....we know what I was thinking and I have changed my mind....and just want a very cool very fun sounding guitar that is unique to the 51's we have all seen. This wont be a drastically different guitar, just one where the looks and sound merge somewhere in tone heaven......so check it out......

If all goes well that is planned well. I will get me a black 51......and the only thing I can think that I want to keep stock will be the nut and tuners.

I want to replace the stock pickguard out for this pickguard

Then I want to put these knobs to match the goodness going on....and keep the mojo flowin.

Then to make tone match the looks....this in the bridge

This in the neck for some more retro goodness......

    Then turn this.........

Into this......to give it a unique look and killer tone/twang an playability....

I plan to string it up with .12 or .11's to give it a thick sound too.

Tell me what you think...and let me know if you other fretters think their is better mods or more practical mods .... or something you think would be cooler or w/e.....I like all of your feedback compared to any other forum I frequent.....

That's going to be a sweeeet axe, LC! Makes me want to mod my '51 (boy do I have a long list of stuff I want to mod/upgrade!) My '51 is one of my favorite guitars to play....I'm happy with its stock sound but I bet some better pups would really make it sing (I'd like to replace the bridge too, due to its design it tends to break strings more than it should).

All that mother of pearl will look killer on a black guitar.. I am a little confused about your plan for the bridge though.'51s come with a stop tail strat-type bridge, not a tele bridge...maybe your bridge pictures aren't in order? That's not making sense to me either though, because then you'd have that angled slot for a singlecoil pup where your humbucker will be. (or maybe I just drank too much at the Ian Mclagan show last night, seems I'm easily confused today )

Im chopping the tele bridge up so it looks like a strat stoptail.....that way I can get that tele twang and feel. They are in the right order....you just had 2 much to drink .

Here's a Danelectro bridge that has a sort of cool retro look/vibe ...to confuse the issue further...
