Default Apple iLife ´08 (new garageband)

Interesting news for all fretnet mac users!

I just wanted to mention that Apple have released a new iLife suite. iLife´08 contains among other things a new version of Garageband, this time with a really neat addition, Magic Garageband. Now you can truly start a jam session is seconds, and it comes with a whole bunch of music styles. I recently aquired a copy (ahem) and the update to Garageband is worth the cost (cough) alone.

I can't say that I've given up on a flanger cause I've never liked the effect either. I also can't say the same about Tremolo. I hate them both equally. - Tone2TheBone 2009

I am getting set to replace my home computer with one of the brand new iMacs (which look sweet by the way) or maybe a laptop if I run into some more money, and am excited for that aspect too. I may have to buy an update of iLife for my other machines too.

The new imac looks fantastic, I really want to update too but my imac is a 2ghz G5 so I guess that I will have that for at least another year.

Swede I must say, With all the frustrations with recording on Vista and Vista in general... if the dollars would fall into my lap... that does look sweet...

You got my interest up Swede, I always loved the Amiga.. enjoyed a bit of MAC's and went Windows based long ago... with the problems attached. Looking over at the Apple site.. I noticed a Mac Mini... starting $599.00.. now that's not cheap as dirt but it's just the box and you use your existing monitor, keyboard etc.. but it is an entry towards Garageband if you already have a Windows Based system.

Questions: how well do you think a Mini will do with the 08? looks impressive , but also lacking a bit as a basic unit.. needing a DVD burner upgrade and possible memory.. at which point the price is going to Jump to their second version for $799.00... plus another $150.00 for memory upgrade.. which seems suggested.. that's $950.00 to try a mac.. do you think at that point going with a 20 inch Imac at $1500.00 plus $150.00 memory upgrade would be better? Darn that Garageband ....

why don't they just cross platform it.. it's one heck of a nice looking system

The $1500 iMac with the memory upgrade is what I am shooting at. I have owned 3 iMacs so far starting with the jelly bean colored ones and have got my money's worth out of each one. I am not a fiddle under the hood guy though. I just like to plug it in and have it work. Others are frustrated that you can't upgrade iMacs more or more easily. The memory cards are about it. Otherwise, they are all in ones that you can't strip out and mod that much. Works for me though!

I donut know about Garage Band but when I get my new Mac soon the first thing that's getting installed is Digital Performer. I saw a demo of it in a studio and my jaw still hurts from hitting the floor.

Justa, if you are on a low budget the low end mac mini would probably work rather good with garageband. The HD space is rather limited though.. GB runs very smooth on my 2ghz G5 mac, so I would also recommend the low end iMac (1199usd) with a ram upgrade. Garageband is super easy to get started with!

Did you watch this video on apple.com ?

I love the new magic garageband function!

When I got my Mac it came with a upgrade to iLife 08' I must say I am very happy with the performance of Garageband 08 and all of it's features. I am loving my Mac and only use my PC for games..and porn..LOL

The more I use the mAc the more it makes sence to me being a LONG TIME PC user I thought the switch would be bad, but it was very easy and I am enjoying all the fetures and functions of the Mac..

If you have the budget I would tell anyone to spend it on a Mac..
I've been imitated so well I've heard people copy my mistakes.
