Bump, ok it's been a few days.. try this..

    The icy sky at night
    Paddles cut the water
In a long and hurried flight
From the white man to the fields of green
And the homeland we've never seen.

They killed us in our tepee
And they cut our women down
They might have left some babies
    Cryin' on the ground
But the firesticks and the wagons come
And the night falls on the setting sun.

    They massacred the buffalo
    Kitty corner from the bank
The taxis run across my feet
And my eyes have turned to blanks
In my little box at the top of the stairs
With my Indian rug and a pipe to share.

    The broken glass
    And the rusty nails
    Where the violets grow
    Say goodbye to the railroad
And the mad dogs of summer
    And everything that I know

What some men will do here for diamonds
What some men will do here for gold
They're wounded but they just keep on climbin'
And they sleep by the side of the road

There's a hole in the ladder
    A fence we can climb
    Mad as a hatter
    You're thin as a dime
    Go out to the meadow
    The hills are agreen
    Sing me a rainbow
    Steal me a dream

    Small time Napoleon
    Shatters his knees
But he stays in the saddle for Rose
    And all his disciples
    They shave in the gutter
And gather what's left of his clothes

What some men will do here for diamonds
What some men will do here for gold
They're wounded but they just keep on climbin'
And they sleep by the side of the road

There's a hole in the ladder
    A fence we can climb

ok, so nobody knows "Diamonds & Gold" by Tom Waits from the classic "Rain Dogs" album. That's a shame. The track features some great guest guitar work from Keith Richards.

so, here is my last "guess the song" entry of 2007. another one i think is a bit of a slow pitch right over the plate but what the hell do i know? anyway, here goes... btw, this is one of my all-time fav songs and a HELL of a lot of fun to try to play...
    ------------------------
Please could you stop the noise, I'm trying to get some rest
From the all the unborn chicken voices in my head
    What's that?
    What's that?

When I am King you will be first against the wall
With your opinion which is of no consequence at all
    What's that?
    What's that?

Ambition makes you look pretty ugly
    Kicking-squealing Gucci little piggy
    You don't remember,
    You don't remember
Why don't you remember my name?
    Off with his head man,
    Off with his head,
Why don't he remember my name?
    I guess he does

    Rain down, rain down
    C'mon rain down on me
    From a great height
    From a great height

    That's it sir
    You're leaving
    The crackle of pigskin
    The dust and the screaming
    The yuppies networking
    The panic, the vomit
    The panic, the vomit
God loves his children, God loves his children, yeah!

Well, no takers on that one so I am jumping back in. Here is one I hope is not too hard.

When success is equated with excess
The ambition for excess wrecks us
As top of the mind becomes the bottom line
When success is equated with excess

If your time ain't been nothing for money
I start to feel really bad for you, honey
Maybe honey, put your money where your mouth's been running
If your time ain't been nothing but money

I want out of this machine
    It doesn't feel like freedom

    This ain't my American dream
I want to live and die for bigger things
I'm tired of fighting for just me
    This ain't my American dream

in the event anybody cares, the song in my previous post was radiohead's "paranoid android." some of the ones nobody gets make me feel sad for some of the guitar playing you aren't hearing.

I'll pay attention and listen. Radiohead is one of those I had not got to yet. If you don't mind, would you please post a summary list of your favorite '07 releases in my '07 thread so I can look back in the "have you heard" posts and choose some new things to listen to.

BTW, mine was "American Dream" by Switchfoot as linked in my favorite music of '07 thread.

Bump..... its been a couple days so try this

When we were young our future was so bright
The old neighborhood was so alive
And every kid on the whole damn street
Was gonna make it big and not be beat

Now our neighborhood's cracked and torn
The kids are grown up but their lives are worn
    How can one little street
    Swallow so many lives

    Chances blown
    Nothing's free
Longing for what used to be
    Still it's hard
    Hard to see
    Fragile lives, shattered dreams
    (Whoa!)

Jamie had a chance, well she really did
Instead she dropped out and had a couple of kids
Mark still lives at home cause he's got no job
He just plays guitar and smokes a lot of pot

    Jay committed suicide
    Brandon OD'd and died
What the hell is going on
    The cruelest dream, reality

    Chances blown
    Nothing's free
Longing for what used to be
    Still it's hard
    Hard to see
    Fragile lives, shattered dreams

    Chances blown
    Nothing's free
Longing for what used to be
    Still it's hard
    Hard to see
    Fragile lives, shattered dreams
