    Default Help me decide!

OK, I'd like the input of my fellow Fretters. As mentioned elsewhere, I sold my Model 7 which gave me some money that I could spend on a replacement. Right now I have my Fender Showmaster which has a set neck, fixed bridge, and a single humbucker (with a coil tap added by yours truly). I also have a mostly stock Squier '51. My options are these (note: some of the links are to MF, so I'll apologize in advance for that).

    1) Floyd Rose Discovery DST-3: The big draws here are that it has the HSS configuration I want with a bona fide Floyd Rose on it. I played the HH version at a local shoppe and was impressed with the neck. For $149, it's a steal. I can't imagine getting a guitar with a Floyd for any cheaper. I'd get a red one, FWIW.

    2) SX SPJ Ash or SX SJB LTD NA: Yep, basses! After my Fullerton debacle, I'd still like to get a bass. Both of these are reasonable. I'm probably leaning towards the SJB LTD because of the upgraded tuners and bridge.

    3) Spector Performer 4 DLX: Yes, another bass. This one is on clearance too. It is more expensive, but I had another unexpected source of income I could tap into for it. The main advantage of this one is that back in the day I always wanted a Spector bass. The cherry red would be the one.

The advantage of getting the guitar is that it would be pretty much exactly what I've been looking for in a guitar, but it would probably render my 51 superfluous. I can't imagine a better deal than that one coming along. The advantage of the bass is that, well, I don't have one and I might be able to get back on the bluegrass gig. The problem is that I wouldn't be able to get a bona fide bass ampf for a long time.

Any opinions are welcome. I'll probably be ordering one of these this week (giggles like a schoolgirl).

    Same here. Get the guitar.

The basses are still going to be around, but to get that guitar for that low of a price again will be a rare thing...besides...once you start getting serious about basses you'll want either a Kubuki or a Peavey Cirrus or a Laklund or Modlus or Sadowsky or anything over a grand.

Well, if I were going high-end, I'd go with a U.S. or Euro Spector. Pigs will fly before that happens.

FWIW, I talked with Rob (aka R.A.) Smith offline about the SXs. In case you missed it in the other thread, here's a video on the YouTube on the OFR-equipped Discovery. The one I'm looking at has the Speedloader, but it has the same pups and most other features.

Dang it Marnold! You are giving me GAS and I'm trying to get rid of some guitars...I really am.

Someone on the Talk Bass forum who is a big Spector guy said that for that price he'd suggest this Peavey Grind Bass. I always did like the feel of my Peavey's neck. I'm just concerned about what MF considers to be "B stock".

*Edit/Update:* I called MF and they said that "B stock" means that it was returned to the manufacturer for some reason. Repairs were made and it was returned for sale.

Well, it seems that my choices may have been narrowed even further. The Floyds are on backorder and are supposed to be in at the end of the month. Since they're technically discontinued, I'm not holding my breath. The Spector is also on backorder and also closeout. The site claims that more will be in at the beginning of September, but when I try to add it to my wishlist it just says "Discontinued."
