    Default New Steve Earle album

Just got his new album Washington Square Serenade. I've listened to it through twice, and it is very good.

It is not as political as his previous two albums, The Revolution Starts...Now and Jerusalem. Without getting into a discussion of politics, let's just say the Earle falls on the liberal side and depending on your own political views, this may or may not turn you off.

The album is about his moving from Nashville to New York City. The special edition has a 35-minute DVD discussing this. Also on the DVD is Earle visiting Matt Umanov guitars in NYC. Cool. There are live performances of three songs from WSS. Apparently Earle is a big Bob Dylan fan. I think the special edition is worth the extra $4 for the DVD.

The real standouts for me from WSS are "Tennessee Blues," "Oxycontin Blues," and "Steve's Hammer (for Pete)."

I've been a big Steve Earle fan for a few years now and own most of his recorded catalog. He just seems to get better with every album.

Last night I watched Steve Earle - Live from Austin, TX which was an Austin City Limits concert recorded right after Guitar Town (his first album) took off.

Next I watched my copy of Steve Earle & the Dukes - Transcendental Blues Live. This DVD was recorded after Earle released Trancendental Blues.

It was interesting to see the contrast between young Steve Earle just starting out and older, more seasoned Steve Earle almost 20 years later.

You might want to check out Eric "Roscoe" Ambel, who has played in Steve Earle's band. I don't think he is on the new album, though.

He has a band called the Yahoos with Dan Baird of the Georgia Satellites.

I have Ambel's Loud and Lonesome, a terrific roots rock album.

Sound samples on his MySpace page.

The song "Baby I Love You" cracks me up every time
