Fuzz pedal question

Which of the myriad of fuzz pedals is going to provide a fair amount of grit and distortion....here's the kicker...without huge amounts of thick fat "tone" (for lack of a better word). ?

I'm thinking a Roger Mayer Fuzz....or Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face.....

am I right?

Electro Harmonix Muff Pi's are really thick and when you turn down the tone knob they're really thin and piercing. There's no middle ground with those. I want one that does middle ground. And I want it to be an actual fuzz pedal...not a Rat pedal. And I don't want to spend too much money on a Zvex Fuzz Factory.

Answers anyone?

Tone the new jimi fuzzface in blue is very nice and sounds like it would fit nice.I use a vox tone bender the reissue for the gritshit !! You can find on ebay fairly cheap the originals im sure ya know are priced skyhigh!! Now for the ultimate fuzz an original colorsound tonebender!!(I have 2 but they stay inhouse) They also have recently reissued these and im asking santa for one!!! Also ive had a boutigue pedal maker ,make me a custom (fairly priced) that is superb. Roger mayers are really the bees knees also. Would love the page 1 model!!!

That Dunlop reissue got a good write-up in the new GP, earning an Editor's Pick award. Not cheap at $150, though.

I know. The new blue paint job looks cool though. $150 is a lot better than $250 for the Fuzz Factory though!

You're obviously not as CHEAP as some of us (notably me!)

Heck, last spring, for $150, you could have bought 5 guitars during that Fullerton close-out deal.....

Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz has a "Tweak" knob with 5 or 6 settings that go from "broken transistor radio" thin to "Sabbath Sludge" and several points in between. A hundred bucks or so last I checked. I like mine a lot.

Tone I notified richard who builds the monsterpiece fuzz.I have one of his first pedals.
(paid $100)It was done special for my sons birthday.Signed numbered dubbed the chase mooney special. Im not sure what he sells them for now.Here is an ebay username link.Contact him and I bet he will build you a box .He made mine with 108 silicon transistors but also included a pair of 109'sude: He can also make the fuzz with germanium transistors only or both.Google monsterpiece fuzz.Evidently he is a Harmony central member now and is doing great.Link to his samples and also another contact email is listed.Ill link to the H.C. forums but if this is not allowed ill remove/edit it.The new two headed and three headed looks cool .......I think im going to have one of these built !!!!

What about Robert's "Das Fuzz"? Robert liked it very well at one time.

It sounds great when the amp is a bit overdriven. My amps are on the clean side, so I need to use another OD pedal with it. This can lead to some noise. Germanium transistors you know... they can be noisy buggers but oh so sweet sounding.

I just find I don't use fuzz so often. But it sure sounds cool though.

Yea Im mostly using them on strats ,teles with the clean channel.
