As long as I can still fit them all in my studio the wife doesn't care. Once they start overflowing into the guest room I might start losing appendages.

    3 twangy sticks - 1 good acoustic/electric, 1 cruddy acoustic "camp" guitar,
    1 electric.

    3 boom sticks - two fretted passive 4-bangers, 1 fretless 4-banger.

I now personally have 4. My Fullerton is gone, sold to Player. It was replaced by my Viking. And I now have the Martin, so now two acoustics. The kids' guitars are the same.

Not my thread, but I'd say "owned" is "owned"-- if you have legal title to 'em, count 'em. I know I counted guitars and/or basses that have been or are loaned to my kids. Conversely, I didn't count my daughter's bass even though I paid for it-- it was a birthday present and is hers.

As far as playability goes, that seems like a slippery slope too. I have a 1960 Duo-Sonic that's arguably playable, but certainly not gig-worthy, and I counted it.

    Fwiw, ymmv.

UPDATE: I went back over the thread (looking to see how out of date my last pic/total was), and in doing so, found that the OP, DVM, effectively answered the "loaner" question as per my above opinion, and went a step further even, stating, regarding kids' guitars:

You can count those, too, IF you play 'em more than your kids do!

See post #25. So there you have the official response from the Original Poster.

Hmm, I could say I play my daughter's Indiana Pink Filly more than she does, but I don't.

Well, I went back and checked, and even though I updated during 2009 (a couple times, iirc), of course my totals and pics are not current.

So for the upcoming new year, here's the current batch:

I need to take a new acoustics group shot also. Two of my acoustic guitars are in this old photo (which includes a mandolin my dad had loaned me, which I've since returned, but doesn't include my Oscar Schmitt mandolin I bought to replace it):

Not included above, guitar-wise, is the Esteban (yes, THAT Esteban) acoustic-electric I picked up this year in a pawn for a Benjie:

By my count, disincluding mandolin, banjo, and ukelele per DVM's original instructions, I have a total of 28 guitars now (20 electric guitars, 5 electric bass guitars, and 3 acoustics).

    Happy New Year!

    (in advance)
