Help with 2004 MIM Strat ID....

Hey all,

After a month of searching (and a bum EBAY deal), I finally found my Strat...and I couldn't be happier. It happened to be sitting at a local guitar shop just down the road. I do hava a question though.....It appears to be a Standard Straocaster, MIM, s/n MZ4xxxxx, with gold hardware and a "Limited Edition" neck mounting plate. Also affixed to the back of the head is a "Fender Special Edition" decal.........standard tuners, bridge...just gold. Is this Strat anything out of the ordinary...or just a gold-harware version of the Standard?

That's what I'm thinking....also, why isn't the back plate "black"...matching the pick guard color? Instead...it's white. Standard MIM issue?

Doesn't really matter....I'm not worthy of even holding a SRV knockoff at this point...

: Well serial puts it 2004/05 so its just one of the special edition versions they did for the 50th ann. These had limited paint runs and or better body woods,fretboard woods,limited switching and or upgraded alnico pups and not the standard ceramics.These are limited number runs but most likely a high number per run.Id say there was generally a lil extra love shown on the fit finish,and frett work of these 50th ann specials.Value might hold on these better than regular standards because of the year and limited runs!! That frettboard is rocking!!! Looks like Pau Ferro) Also rosewood (santos) but lighter and unique distinctive grain patterns.:

I appreciate the info and kind words. I've been away from guitar playing for "many" years...but decided to jump back on the bicycle. Funny how the fingers remember....This Strat just plain looks and sounds great. I'm not sure about the pickups, but the sound is clear as a bell. I couldn't be happier.
Is the 2 7/32" string spacing also standard on the MIM's?

No that is standard american spacing so that one thing the bridge is upgraded(most likely has a better block also)!! That is a very good thing brother!!!! Like I said it is better than a typical standard.I bet the pups are alnico also

It seems as though they threw together whatever was laying around. Guess I'm lucky the random parts piles had good stuff in them

Is there any easy way to ID the pickups? remove the pickguard?

You can try that but if they are stock and not F.C.S. then removing gaurd wont help.You can also test them with a meter.The screws on the p.g. look silver??? If so then the gaurd was most likely replaced because stock it would of had gold screws most likely and match the back plate.Calling fender with full serial might get stock specs!
