The best sounding EMGs are in the Musicman Luke. Tyler Dow Bryant uses a Luke for blues and it sounds amazingly good. It is NOT a sterile set. If it were I'm sure one of the most recorded guitarists of all time would not have them in his signature guitar. It is a HSS set.

Spud sorry I failed to mention this is for a shredder for my son the D.M. set is based on the infamous jb/jazz comb(H/H CONFIG) only active.I was commenting on the 85/81 combo or Z.W. set as to harsh for me. I really want the seymours and that is the direction ill take if I decide to tear this 20 year axe down.I have never used an active pup in my life im scared

Just saw this, Mud. Between projects, taxes (yeah, waited until the last minute AGAIN!), and getting my mom's house cleaned out (she sold it & moved into a senior independent living community), I'm just not keepin' up around here!

Anyway, don't know how much I can help, 'cuz I have zip-zilch-zero-none-nada experience with active p'ups. But looking at the three diagrams, I can't see any reason why the two switches and the SD p'ups wouldn't work together. Looks pretty straightforward; just keep your wire colors straight!

I get everything I need from passives and don't like having to futz with 9-volts. So no actives for me. Actually, my old Ovation Breadwinner takes a 9-volt, but that was the first production guitar with an active system so I'm sure modern sysytems would be nothing like the Breadwinner's.
