    Default GFS P90 Soapbars

Anybody had any experience with these pickups? I've bought GFS before and have been well pleased. But, has anyone tried the P90's? If so, how do they sound overall? Inquiring minds want to know...

I'd like to know too. I've purchased 2 GFS pickups and haven't been very excited by them and I'm still looking for some good P90's that wont break the bank.

Which pickups did you order? I ordered a Fat PAF and a Vintage '59 humbucker and have been well pleased with them. Is the P90 that you didn't have a good experience with?

Breaking the bank is my problem, too. I have to piece it a little at a time due to budget constraints.

You may wish to consider the Toneriders, bigoldron. I've heard some good things about their Hybrid P-90 set...

BTW, the guy who sells these on E-bay is good to work with. Name's Ralph Halsey...

I just ordered today the GFS P90s and hope to install them next week, I've been curious about them, I also got the Nashville humbuckers. I have the Memphis humbuckers in my Godin now and just decided to do a little change arounds to find out which sounds the best to me.

Keep us posted, Street. I'm curious to hear about how the P90's compare to plain old factory ones.

    bigoldron,
this will be experimental for me, I'm getting the humbucker sized Dream P90s to put in my Godin that I have humbuckers in now. I'm curious as you are as to how they will sound.

BIGOLDRON, I wish that I capable of doing some clips with these P90s or for that matter any of my guitars. I'm not setup with what ever it takes to do that and will admit that I don't have the first piece of equiptment that I know of to do it with.
The P90s are installed, and I must admit that I'm going to do some more testing with wiring arrangements to see what all I can get from these. I'm very happy with what I have from them right now-VERY MUCH GIBSON SOUNDING. I have sent Kodiak three pictures of my Godin with the Dream P90 from GFS installed. I almost jumped out of my skin when I first tried them, I guess it was so more defined of a sound than I was getting before. I just got them put in and I will be checking on some wiring changes and maybe an additional pot or a change in one. I still have my stock 500K pots but I have one volume , one tone and this on a 3-way switch. I have a much more detailed sound than with the way the humbuckers sounded, The neck pickup can rock out or blues you to DREAM. I see where they get the name. Maybe Kodiak will help me with learning how to do clips.

    This IMHO.

    Thumbs up

Like Street Music, I don't have the capacity to post clips, but I have a cheapo Strat with GFS P-90's on its way. I picked it up for a Benjamin, auction ended over the weekend, so will probably arrive next week.

Nutty what you can get for a hundred bucks nowadays.

I'll do a "new guitar day" thread once it arrives and I can take my own pics (because... pics or it didn't happen!), and if I remember will also put a link here.

Gotta admire your style there, Brian...:

I think I'm going to start using the Krashpad method of E-bay bidding from now on. I think it should be called, "The Krashpad Reverse Murphy's Law Bidding Strategy", in honor of our resident genius who created it:

    1) Find a deal guitar on E-bay that I really like and bid on it.
    2) Send out a, "I made a big mistake" vibe, and emplore others to "save me" by bidding up the item.
    3) Vibe scares off any potential rival bidders who think something's wrong... this auction must be bad ju-ju.
    4) Leave it out there until Murphy catches scent of it. Let him move in on the opportunity to "stick me" with one of his "whatever can go wrong, will" disasters.
    5) As Murphy gleefully cackles, my new guitar arrives when my wife is the only one home to receive it. :
    5) As I frown on the outside at this thing I "never wanted", I'm smiling on the inside at my cleverness...getting it on the cheap, and beating Murphy at his own game....

Brian has the whole world believing it was just an unwitting mistake (his wife included, maybe?). And all it took was an extra couple of $$, and a willing accomplist to pull it off. You sly dog...:

Don't worry, Brian. We won't tell Murphy that you got him...

I don't have any fancy software or equipment for recording clips, but Audacity, which is FOSS (free open source software)and a $20 microphone from Walmart (USB, not 1/8") will get you started. It won't be Pro Tools quality, but unless you're really trying to get a recording contract or overly impress someone, it will get the basic job done.
