If you could only have one amp, which would it be?

Inspired by a similar thread about guitars - here we go - which amp of all the ones out there, new or old, would you pick? Myself, I think that it would be a CAE OD-100. However, I would need a good, old style Marshall 4x12 to go with that. I think that would fill my needs for a long time! If I had to pick a small amp, it would be a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb or a Dr. Z Maz Jr 18, or a Carr Rambler. (Oh, I said one amp, or did I?....)

OK Robert, I'll be true to the question: just one amp. That being said, I am taking into account that I will have nothing else in my arsenal. So, it will have to fit the bill for each and every kind of playing I do, and venue I play at. It needs to be versatile for practice, playing live, and recording. Most of all, it needs to sound killer!

Again, I need look no further than my own studio to find that one, indispensible, fantastic-sounding amp: the venerable Fender Cyber Twin. The amp's not only a chameleon of sound, it's an amp that feels and reacts just like the amps it emulates. But that's only the tip of the iceberg. Sweet, vintage-style Blackface cosmetics; (2) 12" factory-installed Celestion G12T-100 speakers barking out 130W of tasty Fender tone (yeah, factory-installed Celestions - yummy!); more than (30) models of some of Fender's most sought-after amplifiers, as well several other classics; and a host of top-quality effects. Combine that with the ability to mix & match drive (tube) sections, MIDI recording capabilities, a bevy of output options, and there is very little that this amp can't do, and sound good doing.

Boy, I'm a lot of fun, aren't I? Kinda' like taking a date out to eat at McDonald's, and having her actually be happy about it. Ha ha ha!

Most definately my Marshall Jubilee. Very versatile it can do it all...from Beano to high gain shred, not to mention the sweetest blues you'll ever hear.

I had one 30w Marshall combo that was a sweetie, but sold it, oh well. But if a man needs that vibrato...surf...blues...Hey, how many pedals do we get to keep?

I have a '65 blackface Band Master that I love for it's clean tone. Everytime I become satisfied with the clean tone of one of my other amps (my "compromise" amps), I plug into my Band Master for awhile. That sort of recalibrates my tonal receptors again...

But, as much as I like my Band Master, the question was, "If you could only have one amp, what would it be?" I figured if I'm a wishin', I might as well wish fo' a little bigger than what I's already got....

It is a sweet amp Robert. About four years ago, before I bought this amp, I was looking around at blackface Fenders and started to notice a trend. While all the blackface combos with reverb were going for big bucks, the non-reverb Band Masters were largely being overlooked. The BM's were going for considerably less than the other BF Fenders. I picked mine up on Ebay for $310.00. The original GE tubes that came in it were dying so I put a set of NOS 7581's in it (high grade JAN 6L6GC type). The 7581's are known for their sweet clean headroom, which is what a Band Master does best anyway. I replaced one 7025 pre-amp tubes and a couple of caps, and I was in business. I play it through a 2X12 cabinet loaded with Weber C12N's. It's a wonderful reminder of just how a guitar amp is supposed to sound.

When I worked woth Bob Margolin that is the amp he used. Bob was Muddy Waters sideman for a long time. The amp sounds real good and it should for the price. Youch!

Ok, I'm throwing out the '58 Tweed Bassman by Fender. Seems like a good one to me. A Blackface Reverb of some type would be second I think.
