Default I must've got bitten by the Gas Fairy last night. . . New photos!

A friend and I were hanging out today, for one of the last times before I move off to London and he goes to Eastern Europe. We have this big thing with jamming on keyboards for hours and we had this idea to go into this pretty poor excuse for a music shop in a town called Weston-Super-Mare, and we had the intention of jamming until we got kicked out, just because we're leaving soon.

So we walk in, and I figure I'll take a quick peek at their stock. Usually only Godins, Yamahas, and a couple no-name guitars. . . And sitting there was a second-hand Jackson RR3 in black for £139. These go for about £380 over here! It has 22 jumbo frets, rosewood fingerboard, alder body, FR tremolo, 2 Duncan Designed hb's, one volume, two mini-toggles for coil-shunts, and a 3-way toggle.

So I played it and generally perved over it for nearly an hour before buying it. I didn't even touch a keyboard the whole time.

I figure I can drill another hole and get a tone in there, as well as relocating the poorly-placed input jack to the front of the guitar and maybe adding in a kill-switch, replace the bridge pup with an old SD I got lying around, and then give it its setup and it'll be a pretty kickin' guitar.

I know pointy guitars aren't very popular here, but it's a Randy Rhoads model, and he is one of my favorite guitarists. I've had my eye on this bad-boy for a while, and now I finally have it!

Anyone else suddenly bitten by GAS recently? Feel free to share.

Randy Rhoads guitars rule. I will not accept any argument against that. I'd love to have a white one with black pinstripes.

I'm going to make believe that you didn't say that! I've got 3 firebreathing metal approved "pointies," (Ibanez RG, ESP Deluxe, and a Charvel), and believe that RR shaped guitars rock!

As for being bitten by the GAS bug lately, look here: http://www.thefret.net/showthread.php?t=8231

Now, get the hell off my lawn and turn that rock stuff down!

PS: Congrats on the guitar, I'll bet she's a beaut. Post pics when you get the chance!

I always have GAS for Jackson RRs - used to have one in the late 80's, but I wouldn't dare buying one now and gigging with it :-)

    Good acquisition.

    Success!!!

So I woke up today and just went straight to my new RR - what I thought was an RR3 is actually an RX10D (not as good, but not so bad) - and got the trusty dremel out and went to work.

What resulted is a guitar with 2 input-jacks, a master volume and master tone, and a new pup in the bridge that blows the stock pup away!

It was the first time I've drilled a hole into a guitar, and I had to do two. The placement could have been a tad better, but over-all not a bad job.

There are still a few more things I want to add to it as well. . . <<shakes head>>

    Here are some pics:

This guitar is pretty sweet, now. Not that it wasn't before.

They definitely have a fan base (Marnold will chime in). It's a taste thing, although despite not having an interest in them, I've seen some that were attractive, just never wanted to own one. However, we've had this conversation before, so I'll give it back to those that like points.

    Hey thanks, y'all!

After a week and a bit of playing her, she sounds great! I've messed around with the electronics (changed a pup, and added a tone and a kill switch) with some more changes to be made very soon (the very cool wiring mod I posted in the Projects section) and I've decided to shell out for a Seymour Duncan APH-1n for the neck.

So once all of that is done, she will be bloody brilliant.

My only regret is that I wish she had 24 frets. That's it.

    Oh well! :
