So everyone and their dog are buying these, it seems. Tell us more about them. How do they compared to Fenders? What are the weak areas (if any)?
Are you going to do any upgrades, if so what?
Just curious, that's all. :

Which CV 50's? The Strat or Tele?
From what I've heard neither require any upgrading and are very high quality. We'll see I guess.

Ha! Tele-ish now inbound.
I am talking about either or both. Let's hear more about both models from those who know.

Edited to say: The flash pictures really don't do the guitar justice because you can't really see the transparent finish on the body. I wish I could snap some photos in natural light but anyway...
My impressions are very positive. It is a work of art guys. About the best build quality I've seen on a new guitar or any guitar for that matter. I cannot believe this is a Squier made in China, or should I say "Crafted in China" as it says on the back of the headstock. The neck, frets, body and finish are all flawless. The nut is even cut right (ok it's plastic but WhoTF cares). Fret edges are nicely shaped and filed back with no hint of any sharp edges whatsoever. I love the 3 saddle vintage type bridge and those tuners are the same that Fender uses on their MIM 50s Classics. The body grain comes through nicely with the translucent finish and color. And what can you say about that tint on the neck.
Guitar came with a set of nines strung up but they feel light to me so after I wear these out I'll put on a new set of tens. The Alnico III pickups are pretty good. I'm used to the output of Vs but they certainly sound very Tele like. Playability is ridiculously pleasant. It just feels right. Even off the wall at the shop it played like a dream. I'm really not going to change anything on it at all.

The body is Pine. A Pinecaster. Very cool. Is similar in weight to Alder but not as heavy as Ash. It has a nice warm comfortable feel with just the right amount of comfortable "heft". Tone with pine is smiley face good. I'll try to record something this weekend. Possibly tomorrow.Originally Posted by duhvoodooman

Nicey-nice! How does it compare to your Fender Muddy Waters Tele?

The Muddy has Alnico V pickups so they're more output than the Alnico IIIs to my ear. The Muddy Tele is heavy. As heavy as a Les Paul because of the Ash body. The Muddy has a rosewood 60s neck so that's certainly different. Quality is as good as American Standard Fenders.Originally Posted by Robert

+1 on everything T2TB said. It's a brilliant guitar. As I've said elsewhere, I was all set to get a Fender 50s Classic when the CV Tele came out. I can't tell that I've made any compromises at all in going with the Squier instead.
The one problem I had with mine was a loose jack, but then the usual Tele the cup-plus-retaining-clip arrangement has always seemed like a bad design to me. I stuck in an electrosocket: problem solved.

Here is how they compare to fenders. Take a look for yourself. I measured every inch of both and they are identical in all dimensions. One is a CV 50s Strat and the other is a 50th Ann. Deluxe MIA. I saw one of the CV 50s Strats in a store in Hamilton, Ont. today for 299. I was looking for the Tele. If they had one it would have been home with me.
They are absolutley the best thing from Fender in a looonnnng time. For 299 they are a must have for everyone. I mean it.

I really like the vintage tint and the neck on the CV 50.
The pickups are great. The only thing I would change is the trem block and GFS is making one for them that is under 20 bucks. The pickups are a special Alnico 3 set and they sound really good.
The Blues is alright!

After seeing and hearing the new CV tele, I just had to get one. All I can say is WOW :
It looks great and sounds just like a tele is supposed to sound....at least to my ears. The fit and finish are flawless. The pine body is very resonant. The finish on the body is transparent so the grain of the pine shows through...very cool : The neck has the same grain pattern as Spud's CV strat but my pics are not as clear. And speaking of pics....
