    Beckenbauer? Karl-Heinz Rummenigge?

    Nope, it is Gerd Müller - Der Bomber!

    He scored 68 times over 62 international games. Pretty impressive! :

    Impressive indeed, but for me it will always be Franz Beckenbauer. I grew up in NJ in the 1970's and we had season tickets for the Cosmos every single year. Getting to see Beckenbauer, Chinaglia and Pele play were among my first and greatest memories of seeing live sports. I played a lot of soccer in my youth and Beckenbauer was my hero.

    Surely the greatest German football player is Bert Trautman ex WW2 paratrooper and goalie for Manchester City. He collected his FA Cup winners medal after breaking his neck with 15 minutes left but finished the game nonetheless.... unlike a lot of the diving overpaid nancy boys who spoil the game today .
