it was humor, but obviously a failed attempt. If you recall, I am anal about guitar weight and like them light (so I can spin them around my neck).

I already started hinting to my wife - got the evil eye. Any of you ever seen the evil eye? Can scare the crap out of ya.

Oh and keel, my wife said to tell you to - shut up!!!

I'm giving this some serious thought.

These things always seem to have bad timing, but hey, been here before.

    Default New Git

Well Strum....I am LMAO over this and how you might wind up with the git instead of your daughter's friend........however, DVM is right, what about the young man?.....to that end, how about XAVIERE guitars??
They seem to have a good rep around here........and if he doesn't like it, you'll probably fall in love with it and take it off his hands. :

You're right. He wanted the Washburn and the RP350 and that isn't a dead issue. I want him to go out and look at some of the guitars suggested early on in this thread. It would be nice if he purchased my Washburn and RP350, but I want him to learn not to be attracted to eye candy. Although at times I may not be the one to teach that, all of my guitars can be sold for more than I paid for them. I could have easily pushed the purchase, but despite what the perception is here, I am not going to just focus on a sale.

As for the LP, I may have to reluctantly pass this time around. It isn't the first time I had to walk away, and it won't be the last. Despite that, the pain never seems to lessen.

My concern with Agile, he can't test drive one.

I've heard good and bad about Agile (as with many brands). My other issue with them, people seem to accept the flaws. That would be ok if they told you about the flaws up front. However, I do read here and other forums where people are happy with them.

    Re: the ESP,

My wife won this model (next step up from the one origiannly linked) in a raffle at a Joe Stump/ESP clinic. Naturally, I ended up with it.

These guitars seem really good for the money. Mine's the 2007 version: bolt-on neck/agathis body/quilted veneer. I pull it out from time to time, and get my metal on.

    Default These look good!

A TF search yielded nothing on these - www.maldenguitars.com
Great reviews concerning even the lower priced models (Stiger) and solid bodies.

    Default Inexpensive guitar

I find the ESP LTDs to be neat guitars. I have a EC 50 and a Viper 50, both beginner level guitars but really high quality. They both sound great with stock ESP pickups and are hot. The wood is agathis on th LP copy EC and the Viper copy of an SG is a basswood body, bolt ons, but solid guitars.

The prices are higher now, around 280 for either of them.

A Squire Classic Vibe is right in the same price range, as well as the Vintage Modifieds, and Deluxes. That blue Deluxe is mighty beautiful.

I'd say that the Epiphones' are not of the same quality of the above guitars until you get into a Epi LP Studio or G-400 or the SG '66 copy with the full pickguard. These, I believe are at least a hundred more than the ESP's and Squires mentioned above.

Also, those Squire Standard strats are nice as well as the Standard telecasters which are about 199 I think and I have found mine to be really decent. I have a Cherry Sunburst Standard strat and a Walnut satin stained telecaster standard. The Walnut std tele just got upgraded with a Fender Custom Shop, like new, Texas Special bridge pup, rated at 10.5k ohms. I soldered it in just doing a direct replacement, just a slightly different wiring plan with two grounds on the pickup; I soldered them both down and it is VERY quiet for a single coil but it's a Custom Shop pickup too.

Those Peavey Generation EX telecaster style guitars are great and probably are still selling for 149 at uncleikes.com in the standard tele form or the triple single form, the Gen EX Vintage form has a chrome covered vintage wound full sized humbucker in the neck and a standard Peavey bridge tele pickup and is one awesome guitar; sounding, feeling, playing, and looking. Those little known gems originally sold for a lot of money on places like MF and are now way down. The Gen EX Custom is only 199 at MF and used to be like 700 or so and is a dual HB tele with a hybrid set up and piezo bridge saddle pickups and pcb board acoustic modelling, is stereo, auto switching for using two amps or just one amp. When you use one amp the acoustic and HB sounds both go to the guitar amp. When you use the included "Y" adaptor to run it stereo, you run one cord to the guitar amp and the acoustic feed to the acoustic guitar amp. This way the guitar is truly stereo and sounds incredible but blended thru a regular amp you can get some great tones. Vintage wound dual humbuckers on that top of the Generation EX Peavey guitar line.

So for a slow as 149 you can get a great sounding Peavey telecaster and it is built great and has vintage vibes.

Didn't you already have one of these? The triple single?

    Hope this helps.

    Duffy

    Peace

    Just to update:

The Washburn is still here and will probably remain here for the foreseeable future.

The RP350 is probably gone with three people interested including one fretter.

The kid that was going to buy my Washburn and the same kid that I have been passing on these suggestions to, can't decide what he wants to do. It's not a case of what guitar now, it's a case he's not sure that he wants to buy one at this time (he has a true making of a Fretter).

Duffy, I had the Peavey Triple Single, sold it to Ronnie, who sold it to ?

I liked it, but it wasn't at the top of the guitars I had at the time. I am not a Tele guy, although when I went to the shop and played some Fender, I understand the attraction by the Tele fan base.

I may just keep the Washburn. It's an easy playing guitar, has b's, and since it's not in "as new" condition, it's a good one to leave sitting out for easy access and just plain kickin around.
