Yeah, those guys and the Budos Band make for a take-no-prisoners soul/funk set with plenty of rock sensibility.

I learned "Can You Get To That?" last summer when I got the Sleigh Bells album and heard this and remembered what a sweet little guitar groove that song is built around. So good they built an entire other song around it...

How's this for a power trio?

    Bill Frisell - guitar
    Charlie Haden - bass
    Ginger Baker - drums

I can think of at least two bands this reminds me of, both of whom any band should be happy to be compared with...

Default Kenny Wayne Shepherd - 10 Days Out (Blues from the Backroads)

10 Days Out (Blues from the Backroads)
This back to the roots of blues collection has Kenny supporting the last of the old bluesmen/women. This is the real thing, not the typical white boy plays the blues-rock album. It is easily one of the best blues albums I've ever listened to.
Usually these kind of albums don't quite work, but that's certainly not the case here. I understand the DVD is a must-see.

    1. "Prison Blues" Cootie Stark/Kenny Wayne Shepherd/Neal Pattman
    2. "Potato Patch" Jerry "Boogie" McCain/Shepherd
    3. "Honky Tonk" Buddy Flett/Shepherd
    4. "The Thrill Is Gone" B.B. King/Shepherd
    5. "Tina Marie" Bryan Lee/Shepherd
    6. "Born in Louisiana" Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown/Shepherd
    7. "Chapel Hill Boogie" John Dee Holeman/Shepherd
    8. "Tears Came Rollin' Down" Henry Townsend/Shepherd
    9. "Knoxville Rag" Etta Baker/Shepherd
    10. "Big Daddy Boogie" Neal "Big Daddy" Pattman/Shepherd
    11. "U-Haul" Cootie Stark/Shepherd
    12. "Red Rooster" Henry Gray/Howlin' Wolf Band/Shepherd
    13. "Sittin' on Top of the World" Howlin' Wolf Band/Hubert Sumlin/Shepherd
    14. "Spoonful" George "Wild Child" Butler/Howlin' Wolf Band/Shepherd
    15. "Grindin' Man" Muddy Waters Band/Pinetop Perkins/Shepherd

Tig, that KWS album is awesome. The DVD is even better. I just don't understand why they didn't close the CD with "Got My Mojo Workin'" like they did on the CD.

Listening to stuff like this as a kid in my dad's car played a large role in my love of the Ramones.

Always my favorite track from the session with Larry Young.

Default Al Di Meola - Pursuit of Radical Rhapsody

Al shows restraint on the blazing solos, putting the music first in this beautiful album.
However, his guitar work is still incredible and intense.
The covers of Strawberry Fields and Over the Rainbow are among the highlights.

So much great guitar from McLaughlin and Sharrock in this collection.
