...One thing that kept me away from the Deluxe Strat was the whammy bar.

Certainly one of the Strat's most contentious features. I've always found it interesting how, between two of the Stratocaster's foremost proponents, Eric Clapton NEVER uses the whammy bar and Jeff Beck CONSTANTLY does.
