Well, I've done it. I stared looking around a while back, and now it's come to fruition. Last night I picked up my new baby, a 5422 in Walnut.

I've played classical for many years, and only got into the electric thing in the last couple of years. My (small) collection includes a Wildkat and a 335-type jazz guitar. I was keen to get a hollowbody, and one with decent upper-fret access. I'm also not made of money. Options included a Casino (love the p90s in my 'kat), Swingster, and of course the electomatics.

I tracked down both a 5420 and a 5422 and fell in love almost instantly. The 5422 is a beautiful guitar, and is just what I was looking for. I like a guitar with a little bit of volume to it (in size), probably cos I'm so used to classical guitars. The blacktops surprised me. For what I would call a medium-priced guitar (here in Aus they retail for $1600), they're fantastic. I have an SD59 and a Van Zandt in my jazz guitar, and dare I say it, I prefer the blacktops.

The build quality of this 5422 is spot-on, and the grain gives it a very classy look. It feels great to play, chimes nicely on clean settings, and with a bit of gain it puts out some nice rock tones too. I have a Valve Senior, and they work together just perfectly.

This is a happy day!
