I figured American fenders were more than that, even used. What do they typically run? I'm not really looking for another guitar, so it would probably have to be a good deal for me to get it.

Around a grand or so. The economy is pretty tanked so they're priced to sell. I should know as I priced my stuff what I thought is fair and they didn't sell.

Sorry, I actually meant what do they run used. I assume you gave a new price, since that's what I found from some quick browsing. Looking at ebay completed deals, it looks like they're still around $600-700 used.

I dunno. Do you think this is worth checking out and/or buying?

At 400, it'd be a no brainer. $475, still a good deal if you like the guitar and it's doesn't have a warped neck or something.

I love that blonde look, not so nuts over the PG.

Edit, also, just for fun...check this out: http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/msg/1929104465.html

It's the guy I traded that Champ to, for the Jackson Soloist Pro. Maybe I should offer him $175 for that Champ, ha ha.

    OK, here we go:

It's a Highway 1 with a pro set up and goes for $700 new.

What's the deal with Highway 1s? They're obviously a bit cheaper than other models, but what are the technical differences?

I *think* they have bigger frets. And I thought they had rosewood fretboards, but clearly I was mistaken there. Also, the PUPs are Alnico III and wound pretty hot.

I'd say, if you weren't specifically looking for a tele, or really jonesing for one, you should offer $400, and if he says no, pass on it.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. You still think $400 is a good deal for a H1?

Edit: He also said previously that he's selling it because he needs money.

I see it's a highway one, it's got very good reviews on HC.

Highway 1s are US guitars with slightly cheaper hardware. The (nitro) finish is not polished out saving hours of labour. Since about '06 they have jumbo frets and "Hot Alnico 3" pickups. They are very good no nonsense Fenders, a step up from a MIM std which is right where they are priced.

Re the pickguard, white or black look great on honey blonde.
    Electric: Fat strat > Korg PB > TS7 > DS1 > DD-20 > Cube 60 (Fender model)

Acoustic: Guitar > microphone > audience

I've got him down to $400 for the guitar and case, no accessories. He seemed like he might even do $375 for just the guitar, but most likely not. Thoughts?

Well, I offered 375 and he said it would have to be guitar-only. I said OK, he said he'd rather get 400 and would throw in the case. I said OK. I could also stick with 375 and let him follow up with some other ppl and maybe get back to me, but I figure 400 for guitar + HSC isn't too bad.

I would take it for sure. I own a H1 tele that I bought used back in 2008 for 400 from a guy that never really played it. I replaced the pickups with some Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pups, but other than that I haven't done anything to it. I think the biggest place that it lacks is in the fret quality, but that is likely to change from guitar to guitar and its not bad or anything, just not American quality. I actually like the nitro finish b/c it doesn't take much for it to have that road worn thing going without doing it on purpose.

That looks like a good deal! It's gonna have a fairly beefy neck and bigger frets (jumbos). I really love the necks on the H1s.

It seems like everyone on CL here thinks their beat to snot whatever is worth its weight in gold.

    Done deal!

I found the receipt in the case when I got home, and I guess he only paid $525 with tax when he bought it brand new, but no big deal. It seems nice, but is going to take some time to figure it out. Definitely a nice guitar anyway.

Thanks for all of the input, guys.

Ha ha, that's so funny. I made a trade with a guy for a PRS SE a while ago, and I traded him my MiM Strat and some other stuff that I figured I could have easily sold for $350 or so...

When I got home, I was digging around in the gig bag and I found a receipt for $300 from an ebay seller.

Cool. It uses a 12ax7 for the power tube? Strange.

BTW, this thread reminds me: I sold the tele that I bought. I realized after I got it that at this point in my guitar journey, I'm more of a humbucker type. I sold it off for $425 without the case, which I'd call a success.

I then used that money to get the Godin LG signature I've written about elsewhere, and I really like that one. So it goes.

Now to just sell off an amp and a guitar or two...
