New Overwound Alnico V covered pickups, now with sound clips!

I bought a bunch of pickups to do some magnet swaps with, and I have more than I need. I'm selling at least one set to begin with, and possibly more later. They are unused, and I tested them with the VOM today to get true resistance readings. They're exactly as labeled. I also have a set of black surrounds, if white isn't what you need. At this price, it's almost as cheap as just buying the covers! These are MRG brand, and they're vacuum wax potted.

PM me if interested. Thanks!

Sunday bump before these go on CL and on another forum. Price lowered for Fretters!

If you want to see what these look like with the cover off, see my photo essay on magnet swaps.

Thinking about new pups for my Epi Joe Pass...think that neck/bridge set would give a nice jazz tone?? Not really in the know about pickups, but this sounds like a good deal.

I wouldn't recommend these for jazz boxes. They're wound too hot. I think you'd be better off with some vintage wound Alnico II or III pickups. I may have some vintage wound Alnico V pickups available soon, but they don't have covers at the moment. I might be able to come up with some covers, though.

Your Esteban is just crying out for a set of these...

That thing is acoustic with a built in pre amp, would look funny with a set of those pups on it not to mention a wiring issue. Thanks though.might still get them as a backup kit for something I might get in the near future.

Yeah, I know it's an acoustic. Wouldn't it be sweet with dual humbuckers, though?

Monday bump. Still available.

I just put a set of these in my Agile, but I did swap the magnets on that set. They sound great with A2 and A4 magnets, and I'm sure they sound great with the stock A5 magnets also.

safe to call these a poor mans Pearly Gates?

I've never played anything with a PG, so I can't compare. These are brighter than I expected, but they don't seem to lack any bottom or mid that I can hear, anyway. I would think that with the stock A5 magnets, they would be slightly brighter, too.

I think Pearly Gates are A2 and not quite as hot, FWIW. I've never played them, however.

Sounds similar to the 57 Classics, then. Those are also Alnico II and not overwound. I guess that's sort of the tone I'm chasing, but slightly hotter. I think what I've done with these pickups comes pretty close, but I still have to hear my GFS VEH pickups now that I have the magnets swapped.

Geez, FF, I would love to try these out (been thinking of going to an H-H set up in my Strat), but at the moment I'm so broke that I can't afford to pay attention. :)

Thanks for the offer, though!

Bump. Still available, folks. I had a few bites, so I haven't put these on Craig's List yet, but I'm going to have to do that soon. I have Christmas presents to buy...

Give 'em a few years, and they'll probably be in divorce court.
Yeah, but then the lawyers will get ahold of you (sorry Brian!) and you'll only have a 0.005 bucker! :thwap

Clips!

One of my forum friends from the Agile forum bought a set from me, and posted some clips. I don't have the info as to which position (bridge/neck) he's playing in these, but at least you'll have some idea of what they sound like.

Clip 1

Clip 2

Clip 3

These are bright, articulate pickups, but without sounding thin. I still have a pair available.

Thanks to Stephen for letting me post these here.
